First Ever USA Zero Carbon Motorcycle Race Announced

Ok. So The Rockin Roadshow is a couple weeks late with this news, but for those of you who don’t already know, 2010 brings the first ever zero carbon motorcycle race to the USA!

This race, also known as the Time Trial eXtreme Grand Prix (TTXGP) US Championships, will take place May 14-16, 2010, as part of the Infineon Raceway’s AMA Motorcycle Sonoma Showdown weekend. Awesome!

The TTXGP premiered June 2009 on the Isle of Man and is already creating a domino effect. Announced November 23, FIM is planning to hold its events during the Endurance World Championship events. The first race is slated for April 18 during the Le Mans 24 Hours, with others scheduled for Sept. 12 in France and Nov. 14 in Qatar. The date of the fourth race, during the Albacete 8 Hours in Spain, is to be announced.

There is a bit of awkwardness between TTXGP and FIM now, but for enviro-junkies like me, I am excited that green is going mainstream.

Keep Rockin The Road – green style!

The Ride

I recently got some disturbing news from a man I consider a brother, has stage 3 cancer in and around the neck.  As many of us have been in this same situation, you already know the natural reaction and the series of emotions that follow in this cases. I am in Tampa and he  in North Carolina, so its not like I could just jump in my car or hop on the bike and run right up. As you can imagine he had several doctors appointments and follow up appointments for several weeks in preparation for the treatment that must be taken to whip this disease. After many weeks of research and doctor visits he made the decision to go with his doctors advise and begin with the radiation and chemotherapy starting this week on Wendesday 11/11/09.

His parents live in Panama City Florida along with most of his family so I made the decision to hook up the bike and trailer it up to get him and his bike and bring him south for a weekend, of ride time and to visit with his friends and family down in the panhandle area before the treatment gets under way. I set out on Wendesday last week and arrived with him in Panama City late Thursday night. The time we spent on the road talkin bout everything guys talk about was priceless, and was eventually turned to the cancer and everything surrounding it. I was able to see just how this disease can put the hearts of family members in some strange places, but I also see how it can cause everybody to pull together in a time when support is all one needs to get through it. I also realized how important it is for everyone of us as individuals to unplug and reflect on life and everything that surrounds us and put it in perspective. This became sooo very clear when we took an awsome ride in the country on Saturday. It started out at his parents place in Bay county on hwy 388 west, then north on hwy 79 to a little town of Ebro. From there we took hwy 20 west to hwy 81 north. I gotta tell you I lived in Panama City Beach for a few years and never knew how much beautiful country was in the panhandle, including some very nice rolling hills. We ended up in a place that my friend had done some cave diving out in the middle of nowhere. It was called Morrison Springs, and it was incredible. The weather, the ride, the company were all perfect, and it gave me time to reflect on my life and what was important to me. If you ride a bike you know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s that time when you can be with a pack of your closest friends yet be all alone in the solitude of just being.. I’m telling you there is nothing in the world like it. I could also look at my friend and see the look and huge grin on his face that we bikers get when we are blazin down the road at 70 or 80 miles per hour and feel like we are king of the world. It was right then that I knew he was going to be OK with what the immediate future has in store for him. I also know that the day he is back at 100% I will be at his door step with my bike ready to ride again..

Much Love My Brother, and thanks for an increadible weekend…..
